THE CHALLENGE

This documentary needed to feel personal, athletic, and important before the viewer clicked. Cooper Flagg already had name recognition, but the title promised an origin story, so the thumbnail had to suggest there was more beneath the highlight reels.

The challenge was avoiding a generic sports edit. Basketball thumbnails often rely on action shots, jersey colors, and big text, but this needed a deeper documentary tone that still had mainstream appeal.

The design had to bridge two signals at once: elite talent and hidden backstory. If either side dominated too much, the emotional hook would weaken.

I built the direction around legacy and discovery, using a strong subject focus with documentary-style contrast to make the video feel like a definitive profile.

Kept the visual language focused on curiosity and stakes, encouraging viewers to learn the story behind the player rather than only watch his plays.
